Across Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, energy systems are undergoing profound transformation.
Much of the public discussion focuses on renewable energy, sustainability and the global energy transition. These are important priorities. However, there is another critical element that deserves equal attention: energy infrastructure.
Without modern transmission networks, substations, transformers, energy storage systems and grid modernization, the full potential of renewable energy cannot be realized.
Today, many countries face growing challenges related to equipment availability, grid capacity and increasingly long delivery times for critical infrastructure components. In some cases, delivery times for large power transformers can extend to several years, making long-term planning more important than ever.
As a country strategically located between Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan is strengthening its role as a regional hub for energy, connectivity and economic cooperation. Significant investments in energy infrastructure, transportation networks and regional integration are creating new opportunities for international partnerships.
The Nordic countries possess extensive expertise in energy infrastructure, grid modernization, digitalization, sustainability and industrial innovation. This experience can provide valuable opportunities for cooperation with Azerbaijan as the country continues to develop its energy sector and strengthen its role in regional connectivity.
In my view, the future of energy will depend not only on how electricity is generated, but also on how efficiently it is transmitted, stored and integrated into modern energy systems.
For this reason, closer cooperation between Azerbaijan, Sweden and the wider Nordic region can contribute to knowledge exchange, technology partnerships, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
The Swedish-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce remains committed to supporting dialogue, practical cooperation and long-term partnerships that strengthen economic and technological ties between our regions.
As global energy systems continue to evolve, building resilient and modern infrastructure will be one of the defining challenges—and opportunities—of the coming decades.
The future of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Nordic region will be shaped not only by technology, but also by our ability to build lasting partnerships based on trust, expertise and shared long-term interests.
